Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacists St. Our full-time clinical pharmacists have either a Doctor of Pharmacy PharmD degree or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college or school of pharmacy.
Research Experience The program provides opportunities for the resident to actively participate in multiple research projects.
Residents complete one major research project and submit a manuscript for publication in a biomedical journal before program completion. Residents will also complete a drug use evaluation. They present their projects at the following meetings: There are 22 MICU beds in the hospital.
There are two MICU teaching teams. Other disciplines on the team include the pharmcist, pharmacy students, dietician, respiratory therapist and the primary nurse. The pharmacy resident is responsible for identifying and resolving medication therapy issues for patients and will work toward assuming care of all patients in the unit throughout the learning experience.
The resident will provide and document therapeutic drug monitoring services for patients on their team receiving drugs requiring monitoring including, but not limited to, aminoglycosides, vancomycin, digoxin, phenytoin, and phenobarbital.
Documentation must be completed on the day service was provided. The resident is responsible for providing education to fellow teams members as requested.
Solid Organ Transplantation The clinical rotation in abdominal organ transplantation consists of a four-week learning experience at Hahnemann University Hospital.
This rotation is designed to further develop the resident's knowledge and understanding of the pharmacotherapy of patients requiring transplantation for end-organ damage. Patient monitoring skills, application of pharmacokinetic dosing methods, and the provision of drug information to other health care professionals will be emphasized.
The multidisciplinary team consists of transplant surgeon attending, transplant nephrologist, nephrology fellow, pharmacist, PGY4 surgical resident, and PGY1 surgical intern.
Located at one of the busiest intersections in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, Hahnemann provides emergency services for the greater Philadelphia region. The pharmacy resident, under the coaching and facilitation of the Emergency Medicine EM clinical pharmacist, will provide pharmaceutical care for EM patients.
The ED team consists of EM attending physicians, EM residents, medical students, EM nurses and nursing students, nurse practitioners social workers, respiratory therapists, and EM pharmacists. The pharmacy resident will interact with all disciplines on a daily basis.
It is a requirement for this rotation that the resident be licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. The resident is required to be on site for 8 hours at a minimum for this rotation.
